Youth Development: Enhancing Programs that Support Youth
This engaging and challenging training focuses on new, more effective ways to better serve youth, especially during the teen and pre-teen years. Throughout this day we will discover how we may unintentionally limit the potential of the youth we serve, and how a new perspective can unlock that potential. This training includes a local panel from a successful youth serving agency.
The traditional service model of working with youth aims to prevent negative behavior. The Development Model aims to produce a healthy, happy adults making positive contributions to their families and communities. We will learn to champion:
- Youth As Clients - A process that identifies a need for youth services and provides programs/activities designed and facilitated by the agency
- Youth Participation - A process that recognizes youth as resources for feedback and vehicles for change
- Partnership - An intentional process that promotes equal shared power in decision making
Attend this training and learn to identify:
- How you currently interact with youth from a youth development context
- Your current level of youth engagement
- How your personal attitudes toward youth impacts your work with youth
- The importance of not only providing services but also opportunities and supports for youth
- Youth culture and characteristics of that culture
- How to take next steps to integrate these new ideas into your youth development programs
- Opportunities to network with other family support programs
